When other tram designers talk about "off-wire capabilities," they invariably mean the ability to bring down their pantographs for short runs — to cross bridges or run through areas where overhead wire is prohibited.
At BCM Ltd, our mission has always been to provide street running rail vehicles that are 100% self-powered. That means all of the energy required for up to a full 20-hour service day is carried on-board each vehicle, requiring no wayside power equipment of any kind.
Although we design for uninterrupted battery service, if the client demands it, we can provide energy sources such as overhead contact or opportunity charging as well as onboard generation through HFC or LNG ICE. Batteries are charged and balanced each night. The vehicle is simply plugged into a QCDC wall unit at its berth in the Depot, using the supplied high-voltage charging system.

International Safety Standards
All trams and streetcars are designed, manufactured, and tested to comply with EN-50126, EN-50128, and EN-50129, as well as all other applicable railway safety standards.
Standard Gauge Track
BCM Ltd streetcars operate on standard gauge track. Because the track is not electrified, all aspects of its design, installation, and maintenance are simplified and significantly less costly.
Low-Impact Infrastructure
No overhead wire means non-electrified track. Our trackform is low-impact with rapid installation — dramatically reducing the cost and disruption of bringing rail back to your city.
